We are very excited to announce the addition of the Sake Qualifications to the program at Statera, and over the moon to announce Mariko Tajiri as our Sake Instructor!
Mariko has worked with Sake for over 10 years across Canada, talking, teaching and guiding people through the amazing but sometimes intimidating world of Sake. In 2016, Mariko became a WSET Certified Level 3 Award in Sake Assessor and Instructor.
She started her Sake career as her grandfather’s sake mule, carrying bottles as big as herself as a kid.(She boasts, I am Japanese after all!) During the instructor course in Japan, being the self professed super geek that she is, her favourite part was visiting the National Research Institute of Brewing in Hiroshima and talking to PhDs about esters and different smells in Sake. She is also proud to say that she’s never done a sake bomb…yet!
The WSET Level 1 Award in Sake is intended for people who have little or no prior knowledge of sake. It is designed to provide a sound but simple introduction to sake. The quali cation will assist those who need a basic familiarity with the main styles and categories of sake, for example people who work with sake as part of a larger beverage portfolio, in the retail and hospitality sectors.
Successful candidates will be able to list the principal categories of sake, and state their de ning characteristics, and know the key principles involved in the storage and service of sake. They will consequently be in a position to answer customer queries and provide recommendations for the service of sake.
Class will be a one day intensive, exam held at the end of day.
